Interview: Introducing Steph aka Yellakins (musik matter)

"As I was saying. Where to start with Steph? She’s been instrumental in one of the most formative dances in 140bpm, she’s label manager at one of the most respected labels in the genre and she works with some of the most innovative and excited producers/ DJs around. Safe to say it’s an absolute honour having her on here!

We’ve managed to get a mix as well! It’s a version of Steph’s set at zku –which she talks about later – recorded recently digitally (as opposed to its original vinyl format)."

DEEP MEDi MUSIK is a name that’s synonymous with good taste when it comes to dubstep music. Birthed in 2006 at a time Mala’s other label, DMZ, had already put out a slew of insta-classic plates – many of which he had a hand in producing himself – DEEP MEDi was founded as an avenue for a broader splay of music.

Panel: Independence of artists in the digital age

Today on this episode of Hello, Audio!, we take you to our live After Work Session on the Independence of Artists in the Digital Age. Together with Steffi C, Founder of MusikMatter, Karl Ollie Goedicke, Founder of Blkchn Records, and Lena Engeln, Marketing and Project Manager at gigmit, Helen discusses what is actually happening today in the music industry.

Do artists need to be independent? How can they do that? What services are available to them? What are the limitations? When do artists need support?

But also, what are the middlemen doing these days? Are they still important? Do artists still need them? Do they still need the big players? Or can they do everything by themselves?

Panel: Inclusion of Womxn in (Sound System) Scene

Moderated by Gloria Caiti aka Windrose Syndrome
With Sisters Of Reggae & MC Mad-X, Steffi (Deep Medi label) Carmel Zoum (MC & Activist)

Our idea is to explore the inclusion of women* in the music scene through presenting different perspectives, experiences and solutions to gender imbalance which are offered from society. The purpose is to provide guidance, advice and motivation for females* on their musical journey, as well as inspiring promoters / venues to acknowledge the gender imbalance and the necessity of creating inclusive spaces within the scene / community.
